Making a Difference in the Lives of Students
According to their website, the National FFA Organization (formerly Future Farmers of America) is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.”
The organization itself goes back more than 75 years, when in 1928 the original Future Farmers of America sought to create a conversation that involved students, members of the agribusiness community, and teachers, so that a love of and a dedication to agriculture might be solidified within the educational halls of most schools. As the story goes, back then thirty-three boys from various farms put together what would become the future of the organization in the Baltimore Hotel in Kansas City. The rest is history.
The Face of Today’s National FFA Organization
The National FFA Organization continues to commit itself to student education and enrichment on the subject of agriculture, helping its members to achieve real success in both school, and future work life. The FFA Creed begins with the words, “I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds, achievements won by the present and past generations of agriculturists, in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years.”

With various outreach initiatives, the FFA has launched a number of programs aimed at students as young as elementary school age, including educational components that attempt to teach young people about exactly where their food comes from, as well as the general importance of the agriculture industry, and the role that technology plays in the production of the food we eat.
