What Solar Power Rebates Are There in CA?

Solar power incentives, especially in the state of California, are plentiful in number and replete with financial benefits. Solar power options are becoming more and more widely available for homeowners, along with a multitude of fiscal incentives and offerings. And further, many kinds of credits are also available through both local and federal authorities.

In this post, we take a look at a few of the major rebates and incentives programs for making the switch to solar in California. With the state leading the country in solar adoption, it’s no wonder they’ve also got the best financial incentives to offer their citizens.

Solar Power Incentives in California

The California Solar Initiative (CSI) was started in partnership with the utilities companies Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E). It is a key component of the Go Solar California Initiative. Different incentive levels are offered, based on the different performance levels of the solar power panels.

What Kinds of Programs Does Go Solar CA Include?

There are a few different programs offered as part of the Go Solar California program:

CSI General Market Program

A solar rebate program for PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E customers. This funds solar programs on existing residencies, as well as commercial and agricultural buildings and businesses. This program funds solar photovoltaic systems and thermal generating technologies.

CSI-Thermal Program

This program, offered through the CSI, is a solar hot water rebate program, which funds solar power heated hot water systems in private homes and businesses.

Single-family Affordable Solar Homes (SASH) Program

This solar rebate program is for low-income residents which own their own single-family home. To be eligible, you must meet a variety of income and housing eligibility criteria. More information can be found here.

Multifamily Affordable Solar Housing (MASH) Program

This solar rebate program is available for multifamily affordable housing. It is overseen by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and offers incentives to homeowners who qualify as part of the service territories of the major utilities companies.

CSI Demonstration and Deployment Program

This program is intended to fund grants for research, development, demonstration, and deployment of solar technologies in order to build a self-supporting industry for solar systems in California.
